It can appear that there are hundreds upon hundreds of free web space providers on the net today, which to some degree is true; however, the homogeny of free webspace is so prolific that they are not much different from one another at all. If you go to 100best-free-web-space.com you get a pretty good overview of the free webspace providers that have been around for a while, but 100 is actually almost all the free website hosts there are, and 100best-free-web-space.com has the providers that suck mixed indistinctively with the better ones. It's all in alphabetical order. So, 100 best is really just 100 that exist.

At Freewebspace.net about 450 are listed and about 240 live websites come up (because they have tons of dead links), but most of them are total crap, just cobranded rehashes, or no longer even providing free websites.

It's all a joke really. On the internet there's this sense that A LOT is better. Frankly A LOT translates into a whole lot of crap. The providers included on this site stand out from the fray. Free web sites anywhere are free because they're going to have advertisements on them, sometimes tastefully, sometimes totally obnoxious in their presentation. In the end when we look for a free web host, we're looking for a "name" more than anything else, because the rest is pretty uniform.
